Social Justice Warriors targeted a Japanese mall for featuring posters of Takami Chika from Love Live! Sunshine!! as part of a collaboration with the mandarin orange company Nishiura Mikan. This resulted in the mall removing the posters following the complaints. Well, some dedicated fans actually petitioned Nishiura Mikan to retain Takami Chika as their ambassador, and they responded after 18,000 signatures were collected, saying that they would indeed keep her on as their ambassador.

Sankaku Complex picked up the news from the Change.org petition page, where their was an update featuring a response from JA Nansun, thanking fans for their support and acknowledging that Takami Chika would remain as an ambassador for Nishiura Mikan.

This came after Social Justice Warriors launched a harassment campaign against LaLaport Numazu and Nishiura Mikan for featuring Tamaki Chika as the poster girl for their mandarin oranges, since in the anime it’s her favorite food. Initially LaLaport had the advertisement campaign taken down just days after it went up, even though the advertisement in the Numazu was supposed to run up to the end of March.

Thankfully fans took to social media to fight back against the censorship, showing their support and love for Love Live! Sunshine!!, as well as for Nishiura Mikan for supporting the anime.

Additional tweets also verified that while the LaLaport Numazu may have removed the posters, in the Numazu Harbor the posters are still present, albeit not quite as prominent as they were in the LaLaport mall.

It’s a small victory and a minor reversal on the censorship that was enacted against the crossover event featuring Love Live! Sunshine!! and Nishiura Mikan. While there wasn’t a major reversal in maintaining the promotional posters of the crossover event in the mall, at least some of the posters still remain elsewhere.

Hopefully fans will continue to push back against the SJW menace, and show Japan that the vocal minority on Twitter do not represent the otaku and weeb community from around the world.
