2990WX AMD Ryzen THREADRIPPER

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX has just been listed on Newegg with a set launch on the 13th.

The 2990WX is available to preorder for just $1,799 USD an absolute bargain making Intel’s 18-core 7980XE look like a joke for $1,879 USD but unlike the Intel chip the 2990WX won’t potentially burn down the house.

The 2990WX is the 32-core, 64-thread flagship for the upcoming Threadripper 2nd Generation lineup. Featuring a base clock of 3.0GHz with an all core precision boost of 3.4GHz and a maximum boost frequency of 4.0GHz with a precision boost single core overdrive rated at 4.2GHz.

The 2990WX also features 16 MB of L2 cache and 64 MB of L3 cache totalling 80 MB of cache in total, the TDP is rated at 250W and will be compatible with previous generation TR4 boards which is a practice I wish there was more of.

Newegg’s listing shows us new images of the packaging of the unit and stating that Threadripper 2 will be based on the Zen+ architecture utilising GlobalFoundries’ 12nm processing node.

More information about Threadripper 2 will be made in the upcoming days and without a doubt this is going to be a very exciting week.
